National Children's Strategy Implementation Group
Background
The national partnership agreement, Towards 2016, included a specific focus on the needs of children and young adults. As part of this agreement, the Government gave a commitment to establishing a high level group, which would draw together all those Government Departments and State agencies which develop policies and deliver services that affect the lives of children and young people. The purpose of establishing such a group is to ensure better co-ordination of services for children and families.
“At local level a multi-agency Children’s Committee will be established within each of the City / County Development Boards. These Committees will be chaired by the HSE who are best placed to drive this initiative to achieve coordinated and integrated services.”

Purpose
The National Children’s Strategy Implementation Group (NCSIG) was established in 2006. It is chaired by the Office of the Minister for Children and Youth Affairs (OMCYA) and its membership is drawn from the relevant Government Departments, the Health Service Executive (HSE), representatives of local authorities, the education sector and other key agencies.
Rather than producing new policies, the key priority of the NCSIG is to ensure implementation of all the strategic plans and policy documents which have already been drawn up and published in relation to children’s services in Ireland. The NCSIG aims to improve the way in which Government, agencies and organisations work with each other by avoiding duplication of effort, promoting collaboration in service delivery and assessing gaps sometimes caused by agency or service boundaries.
