Statistics
The Health Service Executive is responsible for the collection and collation of statistical information on child welfare issues. The data collected for the “Analysis of Child Care Interim Dataset” includes information on issues such as reports made to Social Work Teams, Children in Care, Youth Homelessness and Separated Children Seeking Asylum.
Annual returns from each of the four HSE areas are sent to:
Primary Community and Continuing Care, Health Service Executive, Parkgate Street, Dublin 8 (http://www.hse.ie/en/AbouttheHSE/OurStructure/PCCC/#d.en.1936). Publications of these returns from 2005 onwards are available on the HSE website.
The statistics from 1999 to 2005 can be accessed through the links below. Data prior to 1999 is available in hard copy format from the Child Welfare and Protection Policy Unit (telephone: 01- 6353033).

The Analysis examines the Interim Dataset Returns supplied by the then Health Boards (now Health Service Executive) on statistical information on the number of children in care and the number of reports made to Social Workers in each year.
